DESCRIPTION:Making his first musical statements with tapings and samplings of music from episodes of Miami Vice\, CASINO VS. JAPAN’S ERIK KOWALSKI has spent much of his adult life absorbing influences from all over the musical spectrum. 2010 has seen the release of two volumes - a Moongadget reissue of Casino Versus Japan\, originally released back in 98 on Milwaukee label Star Star Stereo\, and Night On Tape via Attack 9. Creating challenging while wholly listenable soundscapes and\, dare we say\, intelligent dance music\, CASINO VS JAPAN continue to boldly go where no one who loves the music of Miami Vice has gone before. Electro-acoustic trio NUDGE have been together in various forms since the late nineties\, and they've issued albums for the likes of Kranky\, Outward and Tigerbeat 6. Frequent collaborators of experimental soulmates ATLAS SOUND\, NUDGE recently released a three song EP on a European tour with songs full of subtle pulses and splashes of psych. SIGNAL DRIFT is a one-man hardware unit from Milwaukee\, WI\, who sonically bounces around between the psychic walls erected by early 80s sci-fi films\, shoegazer pop\, sweeping ambient textures and Italian discotheques of yore\, SIGNALDRIFT creates a sound that is both warm and cinematic\, rhythmic and reflective.

DESCRIPTION:HEAVEmedia\, an \"innovative site written by and for people who are interested in music that is original\, vibrant\, and challenging\,\" combines music coverage with intelligent\, often humorous commentary on movies\, television\, books\, popular culture and politics. Tonight they whack their stamp of approval on some local bands and celebrate the culture of the site. Experimental psych folk trio GREEN GROCER make their Empty Bottle debut tonight with sweeping tunes from their spring self-titled EP that has been praised as “most definitely a darker shade of pretty where late 80s-centered psychedelia is concerned.” Gigantic guitar riffs and thunderous drum fills are not foreign to Milwaukee four piece INVADE ROME; they are simply bricks in their massive wall of sound. Celebrating the release of their latest VTK released full length Light Eyed and Villainous\, the band plays towering psychedelic rock that will not disappoint. WATERSTREET plays the Bottle tonight in the middle of an ambitious summer tour that has them zigzagging across the Midwest bringing the tunes from their most recent release Meant for Thrills to the masses. DESCRIPTION:The Daily Herald has said of Chicago’s own BIRD NAMES\, “this band makes the FIERY FURNACES sound like PHIL COLLINS\,” and whatever that might actually mean\, there’s something so delightfully odd about the way these kids throw noises and sounds into the air to see what comes together\, it’s like listening to a vocal oom-pa band or an a capella fugue. Tonight they are joined by acoustic guitar wunderkind KEN CAMDEN performing his wandering\, passionate “near-trance-like” folk inspired instrumentals and local folk pop ensemble DISTRACTIONS\, tonight celebrating the release of a brand new cassette out on Plus Tapes. The revolving line-up band deals in languid\, dreamy tunes\, rooted by singer THOMAS OWENS' thick\, loungey baritone - expect some brand new tunes tonight. ZELIENOPLE return with tunes from their latest LP\, Give It Up\, their most dreamlike and absorbing work to date. The work is customarily strong\, another plaintive offering by a group clearly operating at the very height of their creative powers that have been called \"cinematic\, but startlingly unpretentious.”

DESCRIPTION:Chicago's favorite fucked-up sons hardly need any introduction\, but MANNEQUIN MEN's rockist racket is informed of Chi-town's past dangerous bands like the JESUS LIZARD and BIG BLACK and the shambling pop of New Zealand avant-janglers like THE CLEAN or TALL DWARVES. They're making their triumphant headlining return here tonight\, playing tunes off last years' much praised full-frontal Lose Your Illusion\, Too. Miami's JACUZZI BOYS make their Empty Bottle debut supporting their first full length the No Seasons LP on Floridas Dying. The first pressing of the LP sold out in less than a month and the young whippersnappers are hot off a full US tour with KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES\, so expect a serious stage show to accompany these good time summer psych jams. Fuzzed-up pop combo COCOCOMA return\, leading the crowd in unabashed embracing of being sweaty and dirty for the sake of a good time. The LA Times has excitedly described COCOCOMA as a \"well-produced\, full-blown rock 'n' roll assault that is as catchy as it is rowdy\,\" and RCRD LBL posed the notion\, \"if the carnival had a carousel that had vibrating rockets instead of bobbing ponies\, PBRs instead of Icees and roller coasters that rattled more than the Cyclone in a hurricane\, the music wouldn't be a pipe organ wheezing calliope music\, it'd be the off the rails\, fast as you can pumping of COCOCOMA.\" Local trio MAXIMUM WAGE - featuring former members of THE PONYS\, SUBMARINE RACES\, LANTERNS\, and RED EYED LEGENDS - builds on influences from their past projects to create swaggering 60s-inspired reverb reeling rock to open tonight's garage rock extravaganza. DESCRIPTION:Modern experimentalists MATMOS and SO PERCUSSION are combining forces for this one-night-only concert on the occasion of the record release of Treasure State\, a startling new collaboration between these two rogue American groups. \"Musique-concrete\" oddballs widely known for their collaboration with BJORK\, electronic duo MATMOS are infamous for turning bizarre sound sources (from plastic surgery to live snails) into shuffling rhythmic pop. Brooklyn-based quartet SO PERCUSSION are acclaimed virtuosic performers of classical and avant-garde writing for percussion. Known for playing the music of Steve Reich\, David Lang\, and Paul Lansky\, they are increasingly recognized as composers in their own right. This live show is bound to be an explosive mix of playful and compelling sonic explorations of an American musical landscape. Local trio TIGER HATCHERY open here tonight. (Flavorpill)

DESCRIPTION:What better way to spend the end of your weekend than hanging out and watching some rock and roll cinema at the Empty Bottle? A free rock movie and cheap drinks sounds like a pretty swell way to spend a Sunday evening\, so come on down for Rock N Roll High School. ALLAN ARKUSH directs this musical comedy cult classic about Vince Lombardi High School's fervent love of rock 'n' roll - particularly THE RAMONES (who appear as themselves) - and the students' quest to party. After numerous principals have gone nuts and quit\, the latest one attempts to end the fun. In addition to the title track\, THE RAMONES deliver \"Blitzkrieg Bop\,\" \"Pinhead\" and \"Teenage Lobotomy.\"

DESCRIPTION:The grooves are straight out of Memphis and Muscle Shoals but the singer's out of Massachusetts by way of Chicago and New York City - a new meaning to Northern Soul? ELI 'PAPERBOY' REED's debut LP on Capitol Records\, Come and Get It\, is a collection of originals that could have appeared on the Stax deep soul 45s spun by Windy City Soul Club. When it comes to references\, if you want to be lazy he's the cleaner\, male version of AMY WINEHOUSE; but if you want to reminisce\, REED suggests flashes of OTIS REDDING\, WILSON PICKETT and SAM COOKE. THE CONSTELLATIONS hail from Atlanta and on their debut LP released on Virgin Records\, Southern Gothic\, they're joined by CEE-LO\, ASHER ROTH and receive production help from the man behind releases by ANIMAL COLLECTIVE and GHNARLS BARKLEY. It's an album about what happens between 12-4am in the permanently sticky streets of Atlanta - so of course SNOOP DOG\, brought the eight-piece collective on tour earlier this year. Evoking both the sweet-sadness and groovy backbeat of 60s soul jams\, DIRTY DIAMONDS open tonight supporting their newest EP\, Monster Ballads\, produced by CURT CAMERUCCI of FLOSSTRADAMUS. If you feel like shaking a tail feather\, this is one show not to miss. (Gapers Block)

DESCRIPTION:Vancouver-based blues-rock outfit THE PACK A.D. has been compared to everyone from STEVIE NICKS to THE BLACK LIPS and their heavy and dirty belted\, pounding tunes are a live mix tape of kicking ass. Supporting their newest LP we kill computers out via Mint Records (mastered by soul brother in heaviness JIM DIAMOND)\, it is an album full of fierce\, unapologetic and loud as hell tracks. Locals THE STRANGER are currently working on a full length release for Haunted Town Records. New City Chicago has praised their \"fun amalgam of pop and gritty rock n roll that's equally informed by rockabilly and punk rock\, but without wearing said influences on its sleeves\,\" and we have high hopes for their Empty Bottle debut.

DESCRIPTION:Based on the manifesto from MAN FOREVER\, it's hard to pin point exactly what to expect from tonight's music. Born from seeing a live performance of Metal Machine Music\, the final composition \"moves fast at an almost imperceptible rhythm. It feels overwhelming and fluctuates constantly\,\" in the words of KID MILLIONS\, the man behind MAN FOREVER and a former member of ONEIDA. With help from BRIAN CHASE (YEAH YEAH YEAHS) and RICHARD HOFFMAN (SIGHTINGS)\, it's an ambitious project that makes one of its debut performances at the Empty Bottle tonight. NOVELLER is the solo project of Brooklyn-based sound artist and filmmaker SARAH LIPSTATE. Having played with RHYS CHATHAMS'S GUITAR ARMY\, GLENN BRANCA'S 100 GUITAR ENSEMBLE and PARTS & LABOR\, NOVELLER is at work on a release for No Fun Productions\, a collection of sounds first imagined on tours supporting XIU XIU\, THE JESUS LIZARD and EMERALDS. DESCRIPTION:Houston-based peyote chewing shape-shifters INDIAN JEWELRY return to the Empty Bottle supporting their recently released and appropriately titled Totaled. An album overflowing with off-center\, psych-driven\, heady drone\, industrial noise and tribal drums\, the new album has a heavy dose of groove that borders on (dare we say) catchy. Spitting in the face of traditional song structure the group buries pop hooks beneath hazy layers of lazy\, looped drones and downy\, destroyed guitars\, taking abstracted elements from other genres\, burning them to the ground and summoning something more from the ashes. THE CHANDELIERS\, a modern experimental quartet that fuses analog synths with live percussion and drums play second and conjure up early KRAFTWERK meets J DILLA at an Italian disco. BITCHIN BAJAS\, featuring members of Kraut-worshiping\, mind-blowing trance rockers CAVE\, open tonight's show.

DESCRIPTION:With a slew of raved about limited vinyl and cassette releases from exciting Philadelphia outfit COLD CAVE on Hospital Productions\, What's Your Rupture and Dais\, it was only a matter of time before Matador hopped on the COLD CAVE love train and re-released Love Comes Close last year. Combining synth-pop\, post punk\, new wave and atmospheric industrial references into dark\, synth-spaced pop songs\, Pitchfork went so far as to postulate\, \"if vampires are as cool as I'm told they are right now\, COLD CAVE would've cleaned up at the Teen Choice Awards this year.\" Joining COLD CAVE on this tour\, HAIR POLICE return to the Bottle with their exquisite\, pedigreed noise. There are few acts who can match their creativity and explosiveness and their deconstructive\, nihilistic tendencies are thrilling and unparalleled. Electronic drone metal heads LOCRAIN open tonight playing tracks from their March released Territories LP.
